AeroShell Oil Sport Plus 4 in the SPORTPLUS4-1L configuration is developed specifically for light sport aviation engines in collaboration with the engine manufacturer Rotax. It is described as the second generation of this piston engine oil and is the first aviation oil that is Rotax-tested and approved to Rotax Norm RON 424. The formulation meets or exceeds international specifications including API SL and JASO MA and is fully approved for use in Rotax 912 and 914 series engines as referenced in Rotax service instructions covering selection of suitable operating fluids.

The oil uses a blend of synthetic-technology base stocks and high quality mineral oil, combined with a dedicated additive package. The formulation is characterized as multi-grade for use in any climate, with the same formulation used globally. The base-oil and additive system is designed to resist the shear forces present in high-pressure contact zones such as high-speed gearboxes, valve trains, bearings, pistons, and liners. The additive package includes anti-wear, anti-corrosion, anti-oxidation, anti-foaming, and acid-neutralizing components. These additives are described as providing wear protection, corrosion resistance, engine cleanliness, controlled foaming for effective lubrication, and control of sludge formation when operating with leaded fuels.

The oil is approved for use with both unleaded aviation and road fuels as well as Avgas 100LL, with drain intervals determined by the engine operator’s handbook or manual for the fuel in use. It is supplied in individual 1 liter containers, and cases of 12 liters are also available under the same product family.
