The transceiver incorporates an oversize 1.7 by 1.7 inch full dot matrix LCD with 160 by 160 dot resolution, full backlight, and a dimmer function to maintain display readability in a wide range of lighting conditions. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and is supplied with an AC charger, charger cradle, cigarette lighter DC converter, helical antenna, belt clip, headset adapter cable, alkaline battery tray, USB programming cable, and ferrite core. The housing meets an IPX5 water protection rating and is tested to the MIL-STD-810F environmental standard for resistance to low and high temperature, shock, vibration, dust, and rain.

The radio provides 5 watts TX output power in airband AM operation with 5 W P.E.P. and 1.5 W carrier. It includes ILS navigation display capability, VOR navigation display with automatic screen switching to a CDI-style NAV display when a VOR signal is received, and reception of NOAA weather channels with weather alert functions. Up to 200 memory channels are available, each with up to 15 alphanumeric characters for channel naming to support organized frequency management. Backlit keypad illumination with adjustable dimmer supports operation in low light environments, while an 800 mW audio output provides high audio level in noisy conditions. An icon-driven, menu-based user interface enables configuration and use of the transceiver functions, and the supplied USB cable allows reprogramming with optional PC software.
